First Impulse is the Wing Keel (1.16M draft) version of the popular BENETEAU FIRST 285 performance coastal cruiser designed by Group Finot. Between 2020 and 2023 the boat underwent a comprehensive programme of upgrades and improvements costing in excess of £26,000. The purpose of the work was an upfront investment to give the owner the benefit of a 10-year-plus period where maintenance can largely be budgeted as routine costs only. The result is an exceptionally well-appointed First 285, with practical upgrades such as self-tailing winches, cockpit-led control lines and single-line reefing, making the boat easy and safe to handle when sailing single-handed or with crew. At the same time, high-performance sails, racing antifoul and rigging upgrades help keep the boat lively, fast and great fun to sail. She is currently afloat in Gosport, hard racing antifouled and ready to sail. Inspection and sea trials welcome by arrangement.
