Description
Freedom 40 – “Titian Lady” For the past few years, Titian Lady has been undergoing a major refurbishment programme including new engine, mast removal & repairs, new running rigging & new electrical wiring. Due to the owner’s circumstances changing, Titian Lady is now reluctantly offered for sale. Although she is seaworthy and can be sailed/used, in order to make her fully ocean-going again there are still several jobs to do (such as connecting the H/C water system pipework & galley sink waste, and replacing the refrigeration plates). The hull and deck were constructed by Freedom Yachts, and the interior designed and fitted out in teak by the current owner’s father. The design makes the maximum use of available space with many clever features – as a result she feels very spacious and can sleep 10 (and there are no less than 137 lockers). She was built in 1985 and is now showing signs of her age and needs some TLC to bring her back to her original glory. There are some cosmetic jobs that are not necessary, but would be nice to do – some headlining panels show evidence of a previous leaking hatch (now re-seated and re-sealed), some minor woodwork to be replaced/mended after it was removed for mast maintenance & the lockers could do with a thorough clean. In 2014 the entire hull topsides gelcoat was resurfaced and re-painted (a storm while on her swinging mooring had caused many small gelcoat chips along one side and re-doing it all was the most cost-effective solution). In 2022 damage to the bottom of the long keel was discovered, which has been professionally repaired (under an insurance claim). The Hull Coppercoat was applied in 2014 and shows no sign of any growth. DETAILS Extra Details Designer Ron Holland / Gary Hoyt Builder Freedom yachts built the hull. Bespoke interior layout in teak. (as is usual for this design of boat) The rig is self-tacking, making upwind passage simple. Best point of sail is beam reach to downwind. Dead downwind she is very stable and will steer herself as the wishbone booms can be let forward of the beam (thanks to unstayed masts). Masts were removed / inspected / repaired where necessary in 2016, by Allspars Ltd of Plymouth. The carbon fibre/laminate work done by SM Composites Ltd. Wraparound tan-coloured sails and wishbone booms. Sails were removed, washed and repairs made in 2016 (T Collins sailmaker). But they are original, and definitely showing signs of wear. Any significant sailing would be best done with new sails. Other sails provided are a cruising chute, staysail and quadrilateral sail for light airs. New Lewmar Evo winches (2019). Running rigging all replaced (2019) and hardly used since. Large chart table (designed for paper charts – dozens are included), plus simple navigation station with VHF radio, depth sounder (Seafarer 700), trailing log (Stowe Navigator 1) and GPS (Garmin GPS 128). NavTex (mounted on mast in cabin) needs re-connecting (it was removed when the masts were removed for maintenance). Isotherm GE150 Fridge unit and Isotherm Freezer cooling unit purchased 2016 to replace existing units, but not yet installed. Construction Construction GRP Underwater profile Long keel, with lifting centreplate (on pivot). Stainless steel lifting cable (for the centreboard) replaced in 2019. The gas system was inspected and tested by Marine Gas Safety engineer Tim Beck in 2016. Gas locker (with space for 4 bottles) was found fit for purpose and suitably drained. The rest of the system was tested, flexible hoses replaced and found in good working order (save for the oven burner control), and was passed as safe to use, issuing a Gas Safety Certificate JN2070. Despite being unused since last survey, 5 years has passed and they are now due for re-checking / poss renewal. Large fridge box and freezer box (both top-opening) in galley.
