The Westerly Griffon is a 26ft (7.9m) 6 berth, 2 cabin GRP sailing sloop, designed by Ed Dubois as a more modern, better-performing replacement for the older Westerly Centaur design. Griffons were built from 1979 to 1989, with three models - Mk I, Mk II and Club variants. The Mk II has a better appointed quality interior with a very useful central table, as well as the bigger 20hp BUKH engine and a taller more efficient rig. The only possible reason to buy a Mk1 is that there are no MkIIs available! The Griiffon is an excellent cruising boat. It is an optimum size for sea going capability and ease of handling in harbours, especially for couples or indeed when single handed. The interior is smart, roomy, with plenty of good storage space. The MkII has a proper cooker with hob, grill and oven, which makes cruising delightful, especially boats with a decent fridge in this era of climbing temperatures. This particular example has taken the present owners - husband and wife - to the Scilly Isles, Channel Islands and northern Brittany reliably, safely and without any drama. Extended cruising of the beautiful Dorset, Devon and Cornish coasts, has been enjoyed due to the combination of size, quality of design and construction of the boat, and the extensive cruising equipment carried such as the electric anchor windlass. The engine is a BUKH 20 diesel coupled to a 3 blade propellor fitted with Spurs rope cutter. The Kemp mast is equipped with a Rotostay furling for the jib/genoa. Sails:- Main, Jib, Genoa, Spinnaker.
