Shipman 28 is a performance-cruiser designed by a well recognized Swedish yacht designer Olle Enderlein, who was responsible for other such great boats like Hallberg-Rassy 35 Rasmus, HR 352, 38 and 382 or Nord 80. The boat is very well balanced between arguments of speed, seaworthiness and living comfort, both at sea and during stay. The interior is drawn practical - every inch here is used for functionality (i.e. mess settee from table lifted/lowered on a central pipe, which is a great handle to hold on and swing around the cabin, table extension for bigger group sitting around, cutting board integrated in cupboard etc.). Cruising speeds are generous: 5,5-6,5 knots and more in good winds, on the engine it is 4,5-5 kts. It makes her a good idea for a classic day- or weekend cruiser but with capabilities of competing in amateur regatta or making longer passages. Her sleek dolphin-like hull lines and sharp bow section transpond into gentle cutting the waves when sailing against the sea, she is not prone to slamming water surface with the bow. Narrowing stern section, relatively small cockpit tub with good drains and lifted gangway threshold correspond with safety in high following seas. It is a good living boat for a few months time for single sailor or a couple - with the possibility of inviting 1 or 2 more friends for a shorter stay. She officially sleeps 6, but I would recommend 5 max. This particular model, s/y Falsterbo comes from 1979, that means it’s a post-lift model with alloy rubrails, better deck-hull jointing and better gelcoat quality than early series. In fact, gelcoat cover on this boat is in very good condition - no spider cracks at all, it is ready to be polished if you like. The hull was not painted (original gelcoat!), there are only few bump-cracks, most fixed. Also, post 1977 Shipmans received an updated motor to one-cylinder Yanmar 8hp, that is simple, absolutely reliable, durable and economical (diesel consumption well below 1 lt / hour). I bought this boat in Sweden, on Falsterbo Cape (hence the given name) and it’s the second Shipman I own. With my girlfriend we sailed it around the Baltic Sea and then transported it to Slovenia and we sailed from there to Sicily. I repaired everything that I considered doubtful: - sprayhood repaired by sailmaker (new windows) - Genoa maintenance: new outer UV-proof batten sewn-in - railings cables replaced new in white PCV sleeves - Engine in great condition and serviced - see motor section below - underwater hull was inspected (no osmosis) - electrics tidied up, new points of light in the cabin, new fuel level indicator - new carpets in the cabin (and more below in the accessory list) Motor: Original Yanmar YSM8G - and why it is a benefit... I guarantee it will serve well for many many more years - according to my best expert level knowledge around the yacht diesels. It starts after one turn of the crankshaft (0,5 sec of using the starter - always, independently of the temperature or was it run few hours or a month ago). It doesn’t smoke blue at all. No smoke at all on the start. Cooling is effective - you can use maximum power without excessive motor heating. Those Yanmars are prone to cylinder going ellipsoidal in cross-section because of the lying cylinder (as gravity affects the piston in the cylinder) over the years of service. As this happens they gradually start to loose compression pressure and begin to start sluggishly - although they still keep working well and reliably after start. My friend used to have the same motor on his Shipman 28, he used starting spray and kept that motor operational. BUT - I can assure you, the motor on “Falsterbo” couldn't be further from that point of wear - as it starts immediately, which indicates the cylinder - piston rings setup is still in very good condition and has years more of life before it! The starter was changed for the used, but original one. The valves gaps were set, filters are changed on a regular basis, there is a new water impeller and cooling fluid. The old exhaust knee rusted and leaked fumes, so I have ordered an Inox new one with the new gasket. The fuel tank (28 litres) was removed, cleaned out internally and upgraded with fuel level sensor (indicator mounted in cabin). Accessory list: - DOMETIC electric toilet (full size!) - Septic tank with electric pump-out system - VHF/DSC M-TECH (MMSI not yet programmed, you can register your own!) - mast top VHF antenna + emergency antenna in spares, ready to connect when needed - Polish flag registration - no yearly fees, easy procedures - SPX FLOW Johnson pumps for fresh and sea water taps (2022) - very silent - electric heating fan with 3 air outlets (from engine cooling fluid, like in the car) - diesel heater 5kW with 2 air outlets - solar panel 50W & MPPT solar controller SOLARMARE - 2x70Ah house batteries (2024) - starter battery 72Ah 640A (2024) - automatic charging relay and separator between batteries - 2m Quicksilver dinghy with pumped floor and keel - it is small, yes - but fits well on the foredeck - All led interior and navigational lights - depth sounder & speed log NEXUS NSX series - NSX wind indicator - but not currently mounted on the mast top, sorry! - 2x 2-speed, self cleating LEWMAR winches in cockpit (2023) - 2 x mast 2-speed windlasses (original) - Delta 12kg main anchor with 50m tape on roller - 8 kg Bruce second anchor with ~50m of rope - Compass with night light - 5 x 12V sockets in the cabin - CAN 2-burner gas stove on a custom built inox gimbal (new) - automatic BILLTEMA bilge pump - Intelligent 15A 230V BILLTEMA battery charger (2025) - 20m Shore power cable with 16A adapter - fresh water tank - plastic 85l - Diesel tank 28lt - cleaned (2025) - rolled genoa - good condition - mainsail with 2 reefs - good condition - full galley equipment - mostly 2025, some pillows, good bunch of tools and spare parts in the tool compartment - Upholstery & mattresses - good condition, were updated some years ago, they need some TLC at some points like sewing in new Velcro
