Description

The Rapier 3100 class powerboat, designed by Len Cox, became an icon of the 1960s and enjoyed great success in offshore racing-most notably in the legendary-Cowes Torquay race, founded by Sir Max Aitken. Pegasus, was built in 1966 by the Christchurch Yacht Co. in Dorset. With her planing hull and a top speed of approximately 30 knots, she had a distinguished racing career during the 1960s, winning numerous events and earning the Concours d Elegance trophy for the best all-round production cruiser. The current owners have recently added on the beautiful swim platform, crafted from stainless-steel and Iroko. She is now powered by a pair of 140hp Cummins diesel engines. A truly gorgeous piece of maritime history and well worth a view. Forward, there's a double berth, with the port-side dinette converting down into a double berth. The linear galley is to starboard which is well-equipped with a Neptune 2000 oven and grill, a fridge, a stainless-steel sink. Ample storage including drawers and crockery lockers. The separate heads compartment offers a Jabsco marine toilet, wash basin, and shower tap. The large aft cockpit provides full bench seating with plenty of locker space beneath. Folding helmsman and crew seats are included, along with side lockers. A fitted full canopy allows the cockpit to serve as additional accommodation during inclement weather. The helm, located to port, includes engine controls and instrumentation. Blue upholstery. Hot & cold pressurised water supply throughout. Mechanical Systems Located under the cockpit sole in an insulated engine bay are the pair of Cummins 6BT marine diesel engines, fitted new in 2000 together with new stern gear and systems. 140hp each, 6 cylinders, turbo charged. Fresh water cooled via heat exchangers. Approximately 390 hours on both engines. Electric start. Single lever controls. Vetus sea strainers, Tek tank fuel tanks 400 litres capacity, Racor fuel filters and pipe work. Stainless steel shafts and bronze three bladed propellers. PRM gearboxes fitted at the time engines replaced. Transom trim tabs. Engines have been well maintained and serviced. New shaft seals and cutlass bearings in 2025. Hull Cascover sheathed from new, making a strong, watertight and durable structure. Teak laid decks. Wheel steering to twin skeg hung rudders. Alloy window frames to superstructure and windscreens. Varnished capping rails. Varnished teak handrails. Last surveyed in 2021.
