Description

Amelie – 40ft Dartline Narrowboat (1980) Amelie is a charming and well-cared-for 40ft Dartline narrowboat, reluctantly up for sale due to my move back to South Africa. She’s been a comfortable and reliable liveaboard, with plenty of work already done to give peace of mind to her next owner. Over the past few years, she’s been regularly maintained and improved. She was most recently blacked in June 2025, with new anodes fitted at the same time, and has been blacked three times within the last five years. In 2023, she was taken out of the water for a full swim overplating, costing £8,000. She’s also fitted with a refurbished Lister SR2 twin-cylinder engine installed around two years ago. A 2019 survey is available, and her BSS will be renewed in May 2026. Inside, Amelie offers a practical and cosy layout. You step into a well-sized kitchen with an oven, double gas hob, sink, drying area and good storage. This leads through to a comfortable lounge space, where a recently installed sofa converts into a three-quarter bed. There’s a TV and a solid fuel stove, which keeps the boat warm and inviting during the colder months. The bathroom includes a large, full-height shower, cassette toilet and gas boiler, along with useful built-in storage. Towards the stern, the bedroom is currently set up with a new single mattress, though the space can easily be adapted to accommodate a larger, custom bed. A second TV is also installed here. Amelie is currently moored at , a highly desirable and peaceful marina in Ancoats, just a short walk from the Northern Quarter, Piccadilly Station and local tram links. While the mooring isn’t guaranteed with the sale, there may be an opportunity to retain it subject to approval from the marina manager. There is currently around a two-year waiting list, making this a valuable potential bonus. Running costs are reasonable, with mooring at approximately £270 per month including electricity, a CRT licence at around £90 per month (£1083 annually), and insurance at roughly £19 per month (£230 annually). New communal facilities are currently being developed on site, including an ablution block, laundry and postal services. In the meantime, existing resident-only facilities are fully functional. Amelie offers a fantastic opportunity to enjoy city-centre living in Manchester at a fraction of the cost of traditional property. Please get in touch for more information or to arrange a viewing.
