For Sale – Narrowboat ‘Hare’ – 70 ft Fellows, Morton and Clayton traditional narrowboat. Hare was built in 1926 by W J Yarwood and Son for Fellows Morton and Clayton Ltd. Hare was converted by Jim Forster of Kegworth Marine Services with a full-length cabin, with modern living space. There are a few videos on there of Hare, but the most recent one is up to date as far as this sale goes. Engine Gardner 3LW rebuilt by Kegworth Marine Services with parts from Tony Redshaw Vintage Engines; Hare also has a PRM hydraulic gearbox for ease of boating. Traditional speed- wheel and push pull gear rod controls. Construction Iron/Steel sides with steel bottom, Steel cabin Bottom: 10mm Sides: 6mm Cabin: 5mm and 4mm 10 Sacrificial anodes Boat Safety: 18th August 2025 Last Blacked: August 2024 (3 coats of blacking) Bow Lockable gas locker housing 2 x 13 kgs propane gas bottles; manual change over valve; Steel deck with steel cants. Steel deck board traditionally decorated, rope work and white ‘fire hose’ adorning the cloths. Undercloth conversion – Steel and Canvas Externally, at the front, ‘Hare’ retains a traditional appearance with Canvas/rope work over steel with large hatch window accessed by a zipped flap. Bedroom Fixed king berth (at front of boat) with deep storage drawers underneath, plus twin polypropylene water tanks (with a gauge). The bedroom area is in solid oak; there are 3 LED lights fitted - two reading lamps and one overhead, plus deckhead prism for natural light with an internal slide. A pair of bifold doors (which are included in sale), have been removed by us - for a more open feel. Office Office space complete with underdesk filing cabinet, solid walnut desktop, shelves and plenty of power/UPS sockets. Side hatch opposite office space. Kitchen The Kitchen is aproximatly 10 ft long and comprises of solid wood worktops; all doors are made in oak with walnut trim (handles are recessed with magnetic catches); modern mosiac tiles all-round; larder unit; 12 volt Shoreline fridge; modern ceramic sink/drainer with mixer tap; general ecology fresh water filter system and separate tap; Belling oven with separate oven and grill; Fisher Pykel 3 burner hob; LG direct drive washing machine; Zanussi dishwasher (all ‘white goods’ integrated behind oak doors). Breakfast bar and stools. Living Room Open plan area with sofa and television (included in sale, if wanted) Refleks diesel heating stove (used only one season from new), linked to ‘central heating’ system provided by radiators throughout and copper piping in the living room area. Additional Chilli Penguin multi fuel stove (with new glass fitted). Two floor to ceiling cupboards including an airing cupboard over the 75 ltr calorifier, with 8 ltr expansion tank; full height wardrobe with toilet cassette access at base. Twin side window hatches, traditionally decorated with roses and castles. Bathroom 800mm quadrant shower with Grohe mixer and adjustable shower head; whale gulper pump for water extraction; sink and mixer tap with built in oak cupboard underneath; Thetford ceramic cassette toilet with plumbed in flush - two cassettes; mosaic square tiles; heated towel rail; oak storage shelves and further cupboard. Engine Room Traditional appearance with the Gardner 3LW taking pride of place; PRM hydraulic gearbox; copper and brass pipework; ‘Daytank’ pumped from a semi rotary pump; brass header tank; oil pressure gauge, water and oil temperature gauges; 12 volt fuse control panel; pigeon box in ceiling; twin side hatch doors (one with a slide-over) plus steps to both. Victron 3kw combi inverter charger, 4 domestic batteries (135 amp - replaced approximately two years ago) and 1 dedicated starter battery; 180amp VSR battery controller; 240 v hook up entry point. Original refurbished Francis Light (stored on mount in engine room, with outside mounting on lockerbox when travelling); Original claxon horn. Back Cabin/Boatsman’s Cabin Traditionally decorated with roses, castles and scumble; integral coal box below steps; classic range stove; seating to the side (with built-in fold out small double bed); traditional built in cupboards and drawers plus traditional drop down table; brass speed wheel and "fist" gear rod handle; steps to rear hatch doors. 12 v bilge pump (auto and manual), stern gear greaser and extra storage under the counter. ‘Hare’ is painted in FMC colours by Norton Canes in 2018 and signwritten by ‘Signey Steve’ from Alvecote; front cabin sides also fully repainted at this time in marine grey along with new double glazed drop-back portholes. The boat is currently moored south of Solihull, West Midlands, on the Grand Union Canal. The garden mooring (with electricity and water supplied) is available to rent if you choose to keep the boat in its current location, (although this will be a separate agreement with the mooring owner).
