Description
Hyperion & Hyades are for sale as a pair. Built together in 1935 by Harland and Wolff, they are an original pairing. Both boats have a long and varied history. Hyperion was used by the women trainees during WW2 to deliver various loads between London and Birmingham. She has been a trip boat, camping boat, saddlery and art studio. For more details on her history visit the National Historic Hyperion was last surveyed for insurance in 2023, no issues sited. BSS 2024 passed with no issues. Refurbished HB2 fitted with both electric and hand start 2023 along with Newage 3:1 160 gearbox. The cabin has no leaks, is heated by an Epping stove, door through to the engine room (very handy) and upholstery that is in good, clean, useable condition. 2 leisure batteries in the engine room need replacing. Starter battery in good condition. the engine room has side tanks as well as a day tank which can be topped up via a hand pump. Hyades (butty), was famously used as a horse trip boat on the Tiverton Canal, a thorough history can be found on the National Historic Ships Register here: https://www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk/register/301/hyades She has a wooden bottom (one of 8? buttys left with this composite construction), bottom is still in vgc. and a wooden cabin with 4' extention. Guidwife Stove, upholstery in good, clean, useable condition. The slide and runners were replaced in 2025, no leaks in the cabin. Port side stern cant replaced 2024, the sbd. side cant now needs replacing. Samples of the wooden forend cants are still with the boat, should the new owner wish to re-instate wooden cants there is a pattern to go from. 2 automatic bilge pumps have been fitted just in front of the cabin extension on either side of the keelson. Leisure batteries (2x victron AGM 12-220) are situated in the stern of the butty. Replaced 2024). Last survey for insurance 2023, where a new steel fore deck and cants were fitted and a patch to a knee on the port side. Otherwise no issues. BSS due September 2026. Both boats last blacked 2024 and have been docked and blacked every other year. 2024 Surveys for both boats available on request. Please get in touch via email to view. I would prefer the boats to go as an original pairing together but will split if I absolutely have to. In which case, the butty Hyades will have to go first. Nice easy pair to boat, both have been boated single handed for the last 5/6years. Closest dry docks are Stockton and Yardley Gobion. 10% Deposit secures sale, Survey recommended. NB. Hyades needs to be DRY DOCKED as she has a wooden bottom and will not be surveyed at a dock where a crane is used. More photos to follow.
