Description
A 60 ft Stunning And Luxurious Narrowboat ideally suited for living aboard or Extended Cruising! Hattie is a perfect example of a Norton Canes quality boat built in 1999. She was fitted out with beautiful hardwoods and proper joinery by the highly regarded Blue Haven Marine, all still as solid as the day she was built unlike some more modern boats! The side hatches and back cabin were decorated by the late Ron Hough making it a piece of canal history too. Literally no expense was spared in creating the original boat and this has continued with meticulous on-going maintenance. She also benefitted from new paintwork over the past 18 months and the engine oil and filters will be changed prior to sale. I first bought Hattie in early 2018 but was forced to sell for personal reasons after only a year. However, when she came back on the market in early 2023, I snapped her up! Naturally, I didn’t need a survey but did pay a surveyor to carry out a visual of the baseplate and hull sides and he was satisfied that the shotblast and 2-pac was doing it’s job well. I am only selling now due to age related health reasons and to buy a smaller, more manageable boat. I have sold 3 x boats privately over the years using a version of a BMF (British Marine Federation) bill of sale which provides all of the necessary protection to both the purchaser and vendor. References from one or more previous purchasers should be available upon request. A full survey from 2018 is available for viewing. Hattie was shotblasted back to bare steel with 2 x coats of zinc primer and 3 x coats of Hempel epoxy 2-pack being applied to both the hull sides AND the baseplate in 2018 (cost £5200). She had the hull sides re 2-packed again in July 2022 by the interim owners and I had the hull and baseplate 2-packed again in May 2025 at Debdale wharf (£2400) which should be good for some 7 years. A comprehensive and detailed history going back 20+ years including highly detailed engine rebuild and maintenance documentation will be handed to you upon completion. Entering the boat from the bow there is copious storage in the lockers and a decent sized drop down table, the cratch cover was new by AJ Canopies, Braunston in 2020. As you step down into the saloon, the richness of the woodwork with solid ash T&G ceiling and crossbeams is immediately welcoming as is the amount of storage space cleverly designed into the boat. There is a recliner armchair opposite the hidden TV cupboard housing a 24” Samsung smart TV, drop-leaf dining table (there is also a drop down table that has been removed and in storage), 2 x folding chairs and an Arrow solid fuel stove which is backed up by an efficient Eberspacher system to radiators (newly installed in 2023 and the latest brushless motor type with variable output putting an end to breakdowns associated with the notoriously unreliable previous versions - in addition, the whole system was flushed out and replaced with the recommended coolant/anti-freeze as part of the new installation with total cost of around £2500). There is a Wi-Fi installation, you just need to pop your own sim into the router. Mains sockets are distributed throughout. The galley utilises its space well with side hatches at each end, and an extractor over the cooker (also new in 2023). A 24v LEC fridge with icebox, Panasonic microwave and a Zanussi Aquacycle washing machine complete the equipment list here. The worktops are quality Italian tiles. A starboard side bathroom features a decent sized cubicle shower with a powerful mixer & extractor light with a reliable Tecma macerator pump-out toilet and ceramic sink over large vanity unit. A full height wardrobe is accessible from the corridor with additional mini-wardrobes beneath the gunnel. The bedroom has a 6’3” bed extending to 4’6” (more possible) with 2 x large drawers beneath the bed. The engine room follows at the centre of which is the glorious Gardner 3LW powering through a hydraulic drive system (the hydraulic drive fluid was replaced along with hydraulic hoses in 2023 at a cost of some £500), this provides an almost full height back cabin that you can actually stand up in with more storage as a result. The engine has a complete and very comprehensive service and rebuild history by the eminent (sadly late as of 2025) Charles Mills along with full engine and drivetrain surveys from 2018 & 2023 with oil and filetrs being changed annually, even if barely used. The DC electrics are 24V with Rolls deep cycle batteries that are in tip top condition. A Victron 2kw inverter/charger (newly installed in February 2026 with a total installed cost of just shy of £1500) provides onboard AC power and maintains the batteries when on shore power. There are separate alternators for the domestics (Leece Neville 24v) and engine start battery (12v). 2 x State of the art 180w mono solar panels were installed with a Victron MPPT controller which keeps the fridge going and batteries charged in the spring/summer months. Lighting is LED throughout and a Galvanic isolator is installed to protect the hull from stray currents.. There are 2 x water pumps (one as a back-up) and a stainless steel insulated water tank of approx. 650 Litres. The calorifier was replaced in 2018 with a Surecal unit with immersion heater, so hot water is provided from either the engine, central heating or immersion. Last but definitely not least is the traditional Boatman’s cabin (BMC) with drop down cosy double bed, scumbling and artwork by the late Ron Hough. The drop down table panel has been designed as a full height opening wardrobe/hanging area but could be changed to a more traditional drop-down table, drawer & cupboard quite easily. As mentioned, headroom is significantly better than usual due to the hydraulic drive resulting in there being no prop-shaft running the length of the cabin. A solid fuel range (Premier) is also installed here. Guests have commented that this is the most comfortable and warm back cabin on a narrowboat they have ever experienced, not least due to there being a small radiator installed! Finally, steps to lead up to the rear steering position (which has a custom designed, removable swivelling helmsman’s seat, this alone cost around £1000!). The gunnels are extra wide which is extremely reassuring when standing or walking along the side. Hattie has sleek lines and is much admired wherever you take her, not least for the meditative sound of the engine which is so much nicer than a high-revving modern engine.
